Twin Palms | Palm Springs

Who wouldn’t want to live on a street named Aquanetta? This is just one of the streets of the Twin Palms neighborhood, the earliest of the Alexander Construction Company tract developments in Palm Springs designed by William Krisel. All homes had two palms placed on the lot, hence the name. Built in the south end of Palm Springs, Twin Palms takes advantage of the sheltering mountains to protect it from desert winds, which can be strongest up near the 10 freeway and the windmills. Although built as tract homes for modest budgets, these homes have stood the test of time with their classic mid-century modern design features: post-and-beam construction, floor-to-ceiling glass windows that provided views of the striking landscape, and large overhangs affording shade, but still letting in light. Unlike other tracts at the time with their overall sameness, different roof lines in angular sweeps were applied to the facades, and floor plans were flipped or skewed on their concrete slab lots.

Twin Palms homes, like many in the other Alexander-built neighborhoods of Palm Springs, featured breezeways, carports and courtyard walls constructed of modular, patterned concrete blocks. The neighborhood is within walking distance of many restaurants and lounges along East Palm Canyon Drive, a quick bike ride to downtown Palm Springs, and super close to the best hiking trails in the Indian Canyons and San Jacinto Mountain range.

Homes in this neighborhood are located on fee land that is owned.
