The Cross Trail

If this is the first time you have set foot in Palm Desert and are interested in seeing more of the area, the Cross Trail is a great place to start. This 2.4-mile out-and-back trail got its name from the cross sitting on top of a hill. It is the perfect route for hiking, mountain biking, and bird watching. There is also a good chance you will meet other hikers while exploring. The trail is open all year and allows dogs as long as they are on a leash.

Bump and Grind Trail

The Bump and Grind is another popular hiking trail in the area. It offers steeper climbs, which could be challenging but pays off with a gorgeous scenic view. This 4-mile loop trail is a moderately challenging route that takes approximately 2 hours to finish. Once you reach its highest point, you’ll enjoy a nice view of the surrounding landscape and the cool air blowing past your face. This trail is ideal for hiking, trail running, or mountain biking.

Coachella Valley Vista Point

Located 5 miles south of Palm Desert on Highway 74, the Coachella Valley Vista Point is where local hikers and out-of-town travelers meet. This site offers a nice view of the surrounding area, including a spectacular view of the San Gorgonio and San Jacinto mountains. When you look around the area, you’ll notice pinyon trees dominating the landscape, which is how the towns of Pinyon Pine and Pinyon Crest got their names.

The outskirts of Palm Desert offer a fantastic contrast to the city. You can immerse yourself in the area’s natural beauty, full of hiking trails and sights to see. It’s worth seeing on your next trip.
